City Hall work nearly done

Goldsboro residents won't have to wait much longer to set foot back inside their historic City Hall.
One of the final inspections of the building was to be conducted today, and another will likely follow early next week, Assistant City Manager Tasha Logan said.
Logan said she expects furniture to be moved in next week as well, and she added that networking the building with the City Hall Annex also should be completed by next Friday.
An open house is expected to be held at the beginning of March, but Ms. Logan said she and the council have not discussed a specific date yet. They will do so at the next council meeting on Feb. 18.
The building is a few days away from being complete.
The steps are refinished. The columns are restored. The statues of Liberty and Justice are back to the top of the building, in all of their gold-plated glory.
The building's facelift incorporated modern updates with classical design.
The 106-year-old building now sports new clocks in the clock tower and a brand new interior, including new carpeting, elegant wallpaper and red oak Wainscoting.
"I wanted it to look regal when you walk in the front door," Ms. Logan, who picked out the design, said.
Just as the City Hall Annex was designed in a blue theme, the old City Hall will be designed in greens.
The new council chambers will be complete with a tin ceiling and a large, elevated wooden desk for the council members.
The interworkings are also ready to go.
All of the major systems, including electricity, heating, air conditioning and plumbing, have been updated, Ms. Logan said.
"The building just needs some touching up, and there is some landscaping that needs to be done yet," she said. "Nothing major needs to be done."
Daniels and Daniels Construction Co. started the project nearly 10 months ago, and now, the company is getting ready to pack up their tools and head to another project.
The local company has continued to stay on budget and on time throughout the entire project, Ms. Logan said.
"They have really been great," she added.
