An Eastern Wayne Middle School student had eight small bags of marijuana in his locker and sold the drug to at least three other students earlier this month, authorities said.

The Goldsboro Police Department did not file a report on the incident, which involved at least two juveniles.

Sgt. Trey Ball said that a student told Eastern Wayne Principal Catherine Eubanks that a 14-year-old student had marijuana in his locker.

School officials searched the locker, finding eight small bags containing marijuana of unknown weight, Ball said.

That student was charged and transported to the Pitt County juvenile detention facility, but has since been released under house arrest, Ball said.

Police found that another 14-year-old Eastern Wayne Middle School student bought a bag of marijuana from the student, and will face charges, the sergeant said.

Goldsboro police knew of only those two arrests, but Wayne County Schools spokesman Ken Derksen said four students were involved with the incident.

The other two juveniles also purchased marijuana from the 14-year-old currently under house arrest, Derksen said.

In a prepared statement, Wayne Schools Superinten-dent Steven Taylor and Derksen said the students would "be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

"The safety of our students is our top priority," Taylor said in his prepared statement. "It is disappointing that students would purposely break the law and school policy by bringing drugs onto our campuses.

"We do not take incidents like this lightly and the students will face disciplinary action by both the school and police."
