Grants intended to improve quality of rural life in region

AgCarolina Financial awarded $30,950 in grants to 12 organizations through their corporate-giving program, the Fund for Rural North Carolina.
Among the recipients of the grants were the Foundation of Wayne Community College and the Wayne NC Cooperative Extension Service, for the 2008 Karl Best Agricultural Leadership program to help improve Wayne County farming.
Also receiving a grant was the Greene County 4-H, for school enrichment programs in Greene County, to provide educational materials to K-12 teachers and two ag awareness days.
Johnston County 4-H and the Girl Scout Coastal Pines Council also received grants. The Johnston County grant is to help with summer programs and the Girl Scout grant is intended to help with recruitment events to increase the number of volunteers in the 41-county area.
The grants are intended to help the recipients carry out programs that specifically benefit farmers and rural residents in eastern North Carolina where the Aassociation conducts business.
