Wal-Mart fire

Lee Carpenter of Wal-Mart on North Spence Avenue reported Wednesday night that at least three unknown suspects set a fire in the women's lingerie section, Goldsboro police said. An estimated $20,000 of Wal-Mart property was destroyed in the fire, Sgt. Chad Calloway said in a news release. Two employees who used extinguishers to put out the fire were transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital, probably for inhalation of dust from the extinguishers, Fire Chief Alvin Ward said. Ward said the building's sprinkler system and employees' proper use of fire extinguishers "probably saved the building." Police are using video evidence, and ask the public to call Investigator Doug Bethea at 580-4214 or Crimestoppers at 735-2255 with any relevant information.

The home is owned by Sleepy Creek Farms, the report shows.
