MOUNT OLIVE -- Charles Brown is looking forward to the day when Mount Olive's Web site is up-to-date and "more professional."

After all, if you were to click on the current site, "you would probably find minutes from town board meetings held in 2003," he said.

Better days are coming soon.

In fact, the town's manager said sometime within the next few weeks, www.townofmountolivenc.com will be launched -- a new site reflective of a growing town with "a lot to offer" prospective residents and businesses.

"We thought we needed to be a little more current with things," Brown said. "When someone is looking to move their business or their family here, they are going to go to a computer and find out as much as they can."

His hope is that a revamped Web site will show the town off for what it is.

Newsletters, the town zoning map, town council meeting information and department contact information will be contained in the site, Brown said, as will town codes and ordinances.

"It's going to be a way to look at the town of Mount Olive without getting in the car," he said, adding that younger generations have grown accustomed to surfing the Internet to find information.

Designer Lee Nichols, a state employee who has done work for the town in the past, will receive $1,800 for the project -- one he has spent the past several months on.

Brown believes that once the site is operational, residents would agree the money was well spent.

"This is going to be a valuable tool as far as giving prospective residents and businesses a look at the town," he said. "I really do think it will benefit the town."
