SEVEN SPRINGS -- The town of Seven Springs has hired Karen Linker as its new town clerk.

Former clerk Lisa Cash resigned to accept an offer she could not refuse at JC Penny, where she has been working part-time. Last week Mrs. Cash was training Ms. Linker to take over the reins this week.

Training is what Mrs. Cash will be doing at JC Penny full-time now as the store's new training supervisor.

Meanwhile, Ms. Linker has all her telephone numbers in case she has question.

"I will stay in touch, and I want to continue to be as involved in the community as much as possible," Mrs. Cash said Friday.

Ms. Linker is 27 and near Seven Springs on Dollard Town Road. She started working as the new clerk on Jan. 4 and is expected to present her first report to the board Wednesday. The Jan. 9 regular meeting of the town board was postponed until Wednesday, because there was not a quorum.

A native of Goldsboro, Ms. Linker is the daughter of Brenda Summerlin Linker of Wayne County. She graduated from Eastern Wayne High School and Wayne Community College with a Associate Degree in Applied Science Information Systems.

She said she found out about the job at 6:15 on the night of the search committee meeting, and she attended the meeting at 7 p.m.

"I was very excited," she said about learning she had gotten the job. "It's very interesting. I've already learned so much, and I have only been here four days."
