The Goldsboro Police Department dedicated the most resources -- and made the greatest number of arrests -- during a holiday campaign combating drunken driving, a police captain said.

But the Highway Patrol, which had far fewer patrols and checkpoints, had a tally not far behind, figures released by the department show.

Capt. J.J. Biggins of the Goldsboro Police Department reported Friday the countywide totals for the statewide "Booze It & Lose It" Campaign, held between Nov. 30 and Jan. 2.

All told, the five police agencies who participated tallied 2,941 total criminal and traffic violations during the campaign, Biggins said.

What follows is a break-down of totals for the law enforcement agencies who participated, provided by the police captain.
