Officers chase man on U.S. 70

A Trenton man led authorities from two counties on a high-speed chase Thursday morning, reaching speeds of up to 110 mph before finally stopping in Kinston, a sergeant says.
Daniel Waters, 53, faces charges of careless and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driving while impaired, driving on a revoked license, resist delay or obstruct and speeding, Wayne County Sheriff's Sgt. Joe Smith said.
"We clocked him doing 90 (mph) in a 55 on U.S. 70 East, right in front of Wilber's" Barbecue restaurant in the 4000 block of U.S. 70, Smith said.
The chase lasted almost 15 minutes and speeds rarely dipped below 90 mph if at all, Smith said.
Deputies first clocked Waters at a high rate of speed on U.S. 70 around 12:30 a.m., the sergeant said, launching the chase.
Deputy Jeff Sparrow drove the lead car in the chase as Waters headed toward the Lenoir County line, Smith said.
Sparrow called for help from authorities there, the supervising sergeant said.
Deputies from Wayne County and Lenoir County and the Lenoir County Highway Patrol then followed Waters before he stopped in front of a Wal-Mart in Kinston, the sergeant said.
The Highway Patrol filed the driving while impaired charge, but the other charges were filed by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office after Waters was brought back to Goldsboro for booking, Smith said.
