The grandfather of a Goldsboro firefighter is dead following a two-car crash on Interstate 795 near Cherry Hospital, police say.
Police were not releasing names in the accident, which happened about 8:45 a.m. Monday, police Capt. Grayham Keesler said.
Keesler said that a woman driving a Pontiac Grand Am headed north on I-795 ran a red light, causing the accident.
The woman's car hit a Lincoln Town Car driven by a man who had only been identified as of 10 a.m. this morning as the grandfather of a Goldsboro firefighter. The man was headed west on N.C. 581.
The Lincoln careened into a ditch on the west side of I-795, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Keesler said.
Further details were unavailable at presstime.
