House fire

FREMONT -- An early morning fire at 305 North Street in Fremont put itself out before any damage occurred to the apartment.

Fremont Fire Chief Don Wilkins said the alarm went off at 6:07 a.m., but by the time firefighters arrived, the fire had put itself out. Wilkins said some debris had fallen into the heating element on the heat and air conditioning unit, caught fire and shorted out the system. The fire pumped smoke into the apartment, but Wilkins said no damage resulted, and nobody was injured.

dirt bikes stolen

A Wayne County man told sheriff's department officials that more than $10,000 in goods were stolen from his home on Dee Dee Place Friday. Shawn Michael Laws said a $2,000 trailer loaded with a $5,000 and $6,500 four wheeler and a $1,400 dirt bike was taken from his yard. Law enforcement officials have not yet recovered the property.

cart stolen

A trailer loaded with a company golf cart was stolen from Southside Realty Saturday, the owner of the business said. Gene Allison Wells said the property, valued at $3,500, is usually at the U.S. 70 West store in the morning but was not the day the crime was reported. Wayne County sheriffs' officials have not yet recovered the property.

Jewelry stolen

A Wayne County woman told Wayne County sheriffs' officials that someone stole more than $700 in jewelry from her Seven Springs home Saturday by an unknown person.

Vehicle break-ins

Several county vehicles were broken into this weekend, leaving car owners without personal goods.

On Smithfield Road Saturday -- Beckie Pate Turnage said someone broke into her car and stole a CD player worth $225.

On Amy Court Saturday -- David Wayne Bartlett said someone broke into his car and stole a watch and DVD player with a combined value topping $400.

On Church of God Road Saturday -- John Walter Bartlett said someone broke into his car and took more than $300 in goods from inside.
