Results are in from city rec survey

The results are in, and Goldsboro citizens want a walking trail -- just one of several requests for the local parks system.
The Parks and Recreation surveys recorded what the citizens of Goldsboro want for their city recreation activities and facilities.
Coming in second was a fishing area, with the No. 3 request, a pond or lake feature.
The top five choices in the events and programs category were outdoor concerts (55.3 percent), festivals (44.8 percent), fitness or health programs (44 percent), teen programs (36.6 percent) and senior programs (34.9 percent).
Movies in the park and summer activities were also high on the list.
When it came to nature and family-oriented activities, residents showed a desire for picnic areas, an amphitheater, botanical gardens, a wildlife viewing area and a community garden.
The top indoor facility requested was a swimming pool.
Fitness, teen and recreation centers and an exercise equipment room came in second through fifth. A banquet room with a kitchen facility and an ice skating and ice hockey rink rounded out the facility requests.
In water-related activities, boat, canoe and kayak rentals were a big hit, and a water splash park came in second in the outdoor facilities category.
Bike and hiking trails as well as a putt-putt golf course, outdoor swimming pool, multi-purpose stadium and playground were among the other desired outdoor facilities.
More than 1,220 people responded to the survey, and nearly 73 percent of the respondents live inside the city limits.
Close to 67 percent of respondents have been Goldsboro residents for more than 10 years.
Parks and Recreation director Sonya Shaw believes that the full report of survey results will be in early this week, and hopes that she and park committee members and commissions can use the results as a jump start for current and future projects.
