Hundreds attend 2nd annual Parkstown Christmas Parade

On what must have been the most beautiful day ever for a Christmas parade, hundreds turned out for the second edition of a holiday tradition in eastern Wayne County on Thursday.
The Parkstown Christmas Parade drew marching bands, church floats, beauty queens, fire trucks, antique cars, trucks and tractors, motorcycle units, high-stepping horses and riders and an assortment of dignitaries to this country crossroads community.
What the parade may have lacked in size, it more than made up for in enthusiasm. With the late afternoon sun gleaming off the shiny trucks and trumpets, sirens blaring, candy flying in every direction and people standing beside the roadway shouting greetings to those in the parade, it seemed more like a homecoming party than a parade at times.
Which is was. Where else can you go to a parade where the announcer tells everyone at the end that there is free food and drinks just up the road?
Parkstown created its own parade in the 1950s, eventually billing itself as "the biggest little parade in the world," and members of the little rural communty decided last year to bring it back.
Former teachers at Central High School served as marshals, with former News-Argus editor Gene Price as honorary grand marshal.
