Greenwood's James named Wayne's assistant principal of the year

Mary Kay James, assistant principal at Greenwood Middle School, has been named Wayne County Public Schools Assistant Principal of the Year.
This is the first year for the award, created by the local Principals and Assistant Principals Association to recognize dedicated service in the support role.
Mrs. James has worked for more than 20 years in the district.
A graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a bachelor's degree in English, she started her career as a an English teacher in Belhaven. She taught at Charles B. Aycock High, starting in 1986, and laterearned her masters degree in counseling from East Carolina University and beecame a counselor at Brogden Junior High, then Eastern Wayne High. She later became a counselor at Belfast Academy, assistant principal at Northwest Elementary and was named assistant principal at Greenwood this year.
