Don't worry if you reach for the yams Thursday morning, and they aren't there. Several grocers will be open on Thanksgiving Day.
The Food Lions will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Goldsboro Piggly Wiggly will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The Food Lions will also extend hours to midnight Wednesday and will return to regular hours of operation Friday. The Piggly Wiggly will maintain regular hours Wednesday and Friday.
And for the Wal-Mart stores, it will be business as usual Thursday. The only holiday Wal-Mart employees get off is Christmas.
The Mount Olive Piggly Wiggly and the Goldsboro Save-A-Lot store will be closed for the holiday and will resume normal hours Friday.
The Roses store in Mount Olive will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
But if you don't have any dinner plans Thursday, you can find a feast at the K&W Cafeteria in Berkeley Mall from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and at McCall's from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
City, county and state government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday except for the post office and Social Security Administration office, which will reopen for normal hours Friday.
The city of Goldsboro will have only essential personnel on duty with police and fire services, and some departments will have people on call.
The city of Mount Olive will have public works and police on call, too, and somebody will be at the water plant.
Banks will close Thursday and resume normal hours Friday, but the credit unions for state and federal employees and postal workers will be closed both days.
The Berkeley Mall stores will be closed Thursday and open early Friday at 8 a.m. for Black Friday shoppers to get started on Christmas.
