Goldsboro will seek director for new Paramount Theater

There is room for one more at City Hall.
He or she will have the duty of glamour and glitter and will be able not only to promote a theater but represent an entire community.
That person will be the director of the new Paramount Theater.
"We need someone that has high energy and is a real go-getter," City Manager Joe Huffman said. "We want somebody that is an ambassador for the theater and the community at large. The two are so closely tied together."
The director's duties would include organizing and promoting professional touring shows, scheduling and negotiating theater rentals for community groups and securing sponsorships throughout the year.
The new position would also include general office management and hiring, training, performance evaluation for assigned staff as well as supervision of volunteers.
Facility budgeting and maintenance, ticketing and sales and general office management will also be part of the director's duties.
"We hope this person can bring some money into the community, too -- bring in some strong acts," Huffman said. "We want someone that will make the most out of this, that will promote the community and the theater."
The job won't be an easy one, he admits.
"It's going to be a full-time plus position, meaning it's going to be a real demanding position, and we need someone that's not afraid of the challenge," he said.
The qualifications for the job include graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in theater arts, recreation administration or related field, considerable related experience of a progressively responsible nature, including some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Huffman said he and Assistant City Manager Tasha Logan will begin to look over applications after Thanksgiving.
"What I would love to do would be to get somebody in place before the theater opens," he said. "I'm hoping that's by (Jan. 2). That way, we can get them on board and help understand the operations."
The new director will have a salary in the mid-$40,000 range, Huffman noted.
