Suspect charges in Monday shooting

Police have made an arrest in a fight that turned deadly on East Maple Street, Goldsboro Police Chief Tim Bell said.
Ricky Lee Burch died of his injuries Tuesday after being shot in the head, police said.
Ryan Jermaine Allen of South Oleander Street, who police say goes by the nickname "New York," is charged in the death, Sgt. Chad Calloway said.
Officer J.R. Holland found Burch with the wounds on East Maple after police were called to the scene at 7:39 p.m. on Monday, investigative reports showed.
Burch was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital but died on Tuesday, police said.
Calloway said the gunshot wound was the result of a fight between Burch and another male suspect. Allen intervened with the gun, police said.
Investigator Nelson Viera made the arrest in the 900 block of U.S. 117 South after police investigated the fight and subsequent shooting, Calloway said.
Calloway said that Allen has been charged with felony-level murder in the incident.
Capt. Jeff Stewart said he could not comment on motive for the shooting, but had ruled out any gang involvement.
"It wasn't gang-related," Stewart said. The victim and the shooter weren't "officially part of any gang."
Stewart declined further comment, saying the investigation was still under way and more witnesses needed to be talked to.
"We're still working at it," Stewart said.
Allen was jailed Wednesday afternoon with no bond, according to the police report.
In other apparently unrelated violent incidents, two unconnected shootings were reported in the city, according to police.
Two suspects who apparently shot Jonathon Maurice Lamb, 22, of Randle Lane are wanted for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, police said.
Lamb was hit in the leg with gunfire around 9:21 p.m. after a white Ford Focus drove by Lamb and a man the shooting victim knew as "Will," according to police reports.
Two black males reportedly fired between seven and eight shots, hitting the home of Courtney Staton, 23, of Courtyard Circle, witnesses told police.
The victim ran toward the Courtyard Circle apartments from the 300 block of Seymour Drive, police said.
The white Ford Focus headed north on South Slocumb Street, according to police reports. No shell casings were collected at the scene, investigators said.
Maj. Jeff Stewart said there "is probably no connection" between the shooting of Lamb and another shooting reported around 11:30 p.m. on Olivia Lane.
Jacquetta Rachele Veverette, 20, of South Claiborne Street, reported her Mitsubishi Montero's tailgate shot by unknown subjects in an unknown vehicle on Olivia Lane.
Ms. Veverette and passenger Jeana Smith of West Seymour Drive could not provide any additional suspect information, police said.
