Greene County superintendent resigns

SNOW HILL -- The Greene County Board of Education accepted the resignation of school Superintendent Dr. L. Stephen Mazingo during a special called meeting this week.
Mazingo has accepted the of headmaster at Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston.
His resignation is effective June 30, 2008. He will start work at Parrott on July 1.
Members of the Board of Education said they would begin the search for a new superintendent as soon as possible.
Mazingo has worked in education for 34 years, including tenures as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent in Pender and counties and for the past 11 years, superintendent of the Greene County system.
Mazingo has been recognized for the improvements made in the Greene education process during his tenure, especially in the areas of technology. The county schools' graduation rate also increased dramatically.
