PATETOWN -- A two-car crash killed a Pikeville man on N.C. 111 North near the intersection of Daw Pate Road and a Goldsboro teen was charged in the death, the Highway Patrol says.
Ralph Burden, 62, Carla Ann Drive, Pikeville died after his passenger vehicle collided with a sport utility driven by Nickolas Fredrick, 16, of Ashby Lane, Goldsboro who was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, First Sgt. Jerry Burton said.
The accident happened about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, the first sergeant said.
"(Fredrick) was at a stop sign. He started into the intersection and struck Mr. Burden's vehicle on the left front quarter panel," Burton said.
Fredrick's vehicle spun around in a "complete 180" and came to rest facing the opposite direction on N.C. 111 North, Burton said.
Burden's vehicle ran off the road to the right and struck a ditch bank, Burton said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and neither alcohol nor speed were factors.
