Rosewood's new Wal-Mart Supercenter store at U.S. 70 and N.C. 581 will open for business Wednesday, company officials said this week, with a ribbon-cutting set for 8 a.m.

The doors will open for shopping immediately following the ceremony.

On Sunday, Wal-Mart officials are expected to announce the recipients of grand opening grants during an invitation-only reception, which will be held at 6 p.m. at the store.

Construction of the store began nearly a year ago. Previously, the 52-acre parcel of land was annexed by the city of Goldsboro and zone for business uses. The state Department of Transpor-tation widened N.C. 581 at the site and created a turn lane in anticipation of traffic.

The store will encompass more than 200,000 square feet of floor space. A number of other businesses are already in the process of being constructed adjacent to the store.
