SUN-Halloween Festivities

It is almost that time again for ghosts and goblins to make their way out in public.
Next Wednesday is Halloween, and area cities and towns are ready for the costumes and candy.
The city of Goldsboro will hold its 14th annual Boo-It event sponsored by the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Festivities start at Pedestrian Plaza on the corner of South Center and Chestnut streets from 4 to 5 p.m. The event will include a cupcake walk with Mickey's Bakery cupcakes, a Krispy Kreme doughnut dipping station, stage entertainment with clowns Toodles and Doodles, a moon bounce, games with prizes, face painting, a DGDC information station and an arts and crafts station. Hot cider will be available from Downtown Deli.
Trick-or-treating at downtown businesses will be from 5 to 6 p.m.
The city will have trick-or-treating citywide from 5 to 8 p.m.
Goldsboro police officers will be around the downtown area for Boo-It as well as trick-or-treating to make sure everything goes smoothly.
The rest of the county will have their trick-or-treating around the same time Wednesday night, and Wayne County Sheriff's officials said that there will be increased patrol around the county.
Mount Olive has set its annual candy collection from 6 to 8 p.m., and Mount Olive police Chief Ralph Schroeder said his department will have extra patrol out to keep the young ghosts and goblins safe.
Fremont also will have its trick-or-treating at the same time, and Town Manager Kerry McDuffie said that the Crime Watch will be out to keep an eye out for the children's safety.
Walnut Creek will have its Halloween festivities from 6 to 8 p.m. as well. The village police department asks that trick-or-treaters park in the cul-de-sac at the front entrance to make travel through the village a little easier.
Pikeville will hold a trick-or-treat event in Pikeville Community Park from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will include music, concessions and a costume contest.
For those interested in a little more scare for their Halloween, two local volunteer fire departments are hosting haunted trails.
At the Sleepy Hollow Haunted House in Dudley, the cobwebs and creepy crawlers are nothing compared to the ghosts coming out of television screens.
Between the psych ward and the bloody operating room, the haunted house, sponsored by the Dudley and Arrington volunteer fire departments, has something to spook everyone.
The house is located at 212 Sleepy Creek Road, Dudley, and will continue through Saturday, Nov. 3, from 7 p.m. to whenever.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 13 and under.
The Pinewood Volunteer Fire Department is having its annual Haunted Trail at the Wayne County Industrial Park behind Park Designs, off of U.S. 70 at Goldsboro Toyota, today through Wednesday.
Charge is $5 per person with free hot chocolate available.
