The Wayne County Department of Social Services will be taking application for its Low Income Energy Assistance Program Nov. 5-16.
Applications will be accepted from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Social Services office on the fifth floor at 301 N. Herman St. The office will be closed Nov. 12 for Veterans Day.
Most households that were active in the food and nutrition services program on Sept. 30 with a certification date of October 2007 or later will automatically receive an energy check in February. They do not need to apply and will receive a notice of approval in the mail.
Some active food stamp households are screened out from automatically receiving an energy check and will get a notice this month telling them they must apply in person.
If you do not receive a notice, you should visit the office and apply in person. Applicants must bring proof verification of October income.
Applications also will be accepted at the WAGES Nutrition Site in Mount Olive from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Nov. 6, and at the Town Hall from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Nov. 7.
