November is National Alzheimer's Awareness Month and in honor of the event, the Wayne County Services on Aging is sponsoring a free caregiver education series.

Three separate training sessions will be held, aimed at helping people who take care of victims of Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

The sessions will be held at the Senior Center at 100 S. John St. at 2 p.m.

The first, "Oh My Aching Back," will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Participants will be able to learn the correct way to lift, pull, push and assist with walking. There also will be a demonstration of assisting equipment, courtesy of Coors Pharmacy.

The second session will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, and is entitled "Bathing Without a Battle." Training will help caregivers cope with patients who often resist personal care.

The third session, "Difficult Behaviors," will deal with the reasons behind and solutions to the sometimes difficult behavior displayed by people suffering from dementia.

All the sessions will be taught by Carolyn Robertson, RN, and Eryn McAuliffe.

To register for one or more of the free programs, call McAuliffe at (919) 705-1785.
