Wayne County Public Schools' Title I program will hold a district-wide parent seminar on Thursday at the H.V. Brown Center on Poplar Street.

Twelve presenters are expected to provide parents with information that can help students academically and socially, with Matthew Miller from the Sheriff's Office leading a session on gang awareness.

The 11th Annual "Empowering Parents for Student Success" seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m. The opening assembly will be followed by a series of about 11 mini-sessions covering various topics.

"Parents are a child's first and most important teachers. The Wayne County Public Schools system is deeply committed to providing training sessions for parents that will enable them to help their children succeed in school," said Mary McKoy, the school district's Title 1 Parent Facilitator.

Among the topics that will be discussed are "Reading is a Family Affair," "Math Strategies," "Writing Strategies" and "Testing Tips."

Lunch and baby sitters will also be provided.
