Mother and son face charges in theft

A Princeton mother and her son, who had just left prison in August, face felony charges for stealing less than $200 in construction goods from a Pikeville home, authorities say.
Brandon Michael Boyd, 27, Linda Street, and his mother, Teresa Westbrook Boyd, 52, Massey Holt Road, both face charges of felonious breaking entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods, Wayne County Sheriff's Office Major George L. Raecher said.
"It wasn't a real hard case to solve," Raecher said. "They had some witnesses that saw these people at the house, and they provided a license number for the vehicle."
Authorities also had help from a local business in identifying the mother and son, he said.
Investigation by Sheriff's Office detectives turned up Boyd, who began serving a prison term that ended in Beaufort County's Tyrrell Work Farm on Aug. 21, according to the N.C. Department of Correction Public Access Information System.
He had been serving time for conviction on a primary charge of felonious breaking and entering, according to the corrections record.
The Boyds are accused of stealing $158 in construction materials on Oct. 5 from a home under construction in the Goose Creek subdivision, which has a Pikeville mailing address, Raecher said.
The theft occurred around 11 p.m., with Mrs. Boyd acting as the driver, the sherrif's office report said.
Raecher said observant citizens helped Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris, Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour and Detective David Rose quickly solve the crime.
"The key was that a citizen witnessing the crime recorded vehicle information, which led to the arrest," Raecher said.
