Memory Walk Saturday at Herman Park

A walk, honoring those who have struggled with losing their memories, will be held in Goldsboro this weekend.
The sixth Neuse Regional Alzheimer's Memory Walk will kick off Saturday in Herman Park with registration at 9 a.m., followed by one- and three-mile walks.
Participants from Wayne, Greene and Johnston counties are expected, with donations collected by teams and individuals to support services and programs for those afflicted with Alzheimer's, as well as their families and caregivers.
A support group currently meets monthly in Wayne County, providing encouragement to family members of those with dementia-related illnesses.
Fundraisers like the Memory Walk assist in continuing such groups, as well as providing free materials, a toll-free helpline, and in some cases, providing relief for a caregiver to attend a support group or get a break.
Also during the event, live entertainment and refreshments will be available, along with prayer flags and educational materials.
Awards and prizes will be given to the teams raising the most funds. Categories include businesses, families, assisted living, communities, senior organizations, churches, nursing homes, healthcare organizations and students.
The Guardian Angel Thrift Donation Station will also be set up to accept clothing, household and decorative items. Profits from that sale will benefit Alzheimer's research in North Carolina.
JoAnne Fields Daniels is chairman of this year's walk, which is part of the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
