Man shot

A 53-year-old North Virginia Street man was shot Wednesday afternoon, Goldsboro police said. Wayne Memorial Hospital spokespeople said Glenwood Earl Moses, 53, of North Virginia Street was still in the hospital, in stable condition on Thursday morning. Moses and witness Beverly Moore told Officer C.A. Melvin that a black male entered Moses' home and a fight ensued. During the fight, Moses was shot in the thigh/pelvic area with an unknown type handgun, Melvin reported. The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt, and left the scene in a blue vehicle of unknown make, police said.

SUVstolen

John Washington, Jr., of Kinston reported that his 2000 Ford Expedition valued at about $14,000 was stolen from the 2800 block of North Park Drive, police said.

A Deacon Jones Ford Lincoln Mercury employee said a man who gave a Calypso address purchased a Ford Focus worth $17,035 with a bad check and false information, Goldsboro police reported. Company officials told investigators that the man had been contacted to return the vehicle, but he had failed to do so.

Drug arrest

A 23-year-old Goldsboro man ran from and assaulted officers when they caught up with him, after which they found 18 grams of crack cocaine, Officer M.R. Whitaker said. Matthew Lee Johnson, 23, Misty Lane, is charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, assault on a government official, resist, two counts of delay or obstruct official business, Whitaker said. Johnson fled police to an open land area in the 100 block of Country View Drive, where he fought with officer J.L. Arnette, Whitaker said. Arnette suffered cuts and abrasions to his eye and nose, police said.
