Preparations for the Chili Cook-Off to raise money for the Community Soup Kitchen are advancing, with a number of teams already entered and getting their ingredients ready for a "hot time in the old town" Saturday.
The Red Menace, Hoppin' Jalapenos, and the Red Hot Chili Poppers are just a few of the teams getting together their game plan for the big event, to be held in the Center Street Jam parking lot.
Teams have formed from businesses, churches, civic clubs, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and simply groups of friends who are chili afficionados to compete for the top prize, and to raise money to support the soup kitchen, which provides meals year-round for the needy.
The teams will be judged for best tasting chili--first, second and third place--and for best team name, best chili name and best decorated booth.
The public can sample the entries from at 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., with adult cost $5 and children eating for $3.
The entry fee for teams is $50. Anyone interested in entering a team should call Andrea Heekin at 738-5805 or visit www.communitysoupkitchen.org.
