GRANTHAM -- A man died after his motorcycle collided with a satellite television van on U.S. 13 around 7 a.m. today, authorities said.
Highway Patrol Trooper B. Wiggs, investigating the scene, said a Harley Davidson collided with a Direct TV van near the Wayne-Sampson county line, about seven miles south of Grantham School.
The patrol could not immediately name the victim nor give his approximate age, Wiggs said.
A third vehicle, a 10-wheel box truck operated by a driver with Farmville-based Coastal Beverage, was also involved.
Wiggs said it was too early to say how the truck was involved in the incident.
The Direct TV truck was missing a passenger-side front wheel and had moderate scraping damage to the passenger side door.
The Coastal Beverage truck showed no outward signs of physical damage except for a flat tire directly behind the driver's seat in the truck cab.
The driver of the Coastal Beverage vehicle said the Direct TV van had tried to pass him before the incident.
The van and the truck were pulled to a field near Westbrook Church Road, just west of where the motorcycle came to rest, in the 6000 block of U.S. 13.
