A radio broadcast to raise money to fight Spinal Muscular Atrophy will be held Friday from 4-6 p.m. by Jerry Wayne of Oldies 107.9 at Frema Motors.

The benefit is being sponsored in honor of Haley Mitchell, who suffers from the disease. Friday is her 10th birthday.

All proceeds from the event will go to Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, an international organization dedicated to research and support for families who have a loved one with SMA.

Most children who are born with the disease do not live past the age of two. Haley's family and friends have raised more than $240,000 over the years to help in the battle against SMA. The public is encouraged to visit Frema, help mark Haley's birthday and donate. Frema officials have said they will match all donations.

Donations may also be mailed to 120 Walnut Creek Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
