Goldsboro police have identified a suspect in Monday's murder of 21-year-old Rahkeen Jeffery.
Jeffery, who was from New Jersey, was found injured at about 9:30 p.m. Monday at the basketball courts in the Courtyard Circle apartment complex on South Slocumb Street. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead.
On Saturday, police officers announced they were searching for Dennis Cleveland Young, 25, in connection with Jeffery's death.
Young also is wanted for robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Those charges are not related to the shooting, officials say.
As of Saturday, it was still unclear why Jeffery was shot, or why he was even in Goldsboro. He had no known city address and had no relatives in town, according to police reports.
Young, who also goes by aliases "Jeff" and "Crazy Jeff," is last known to have been living at either 247 Johnson Lane, Goldsboro, or 213 Fox Drive, Dudley, police said.
Anyone with information on Young's whereabouts is asked to call police Investigator Dave Cloutier at 580-4242 or Investigator Dwayne Dean at 580-4211. They can also call Crimestoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and might be eligible for a cash reward for information leading to Young's arrest.
Jeffery's death marks the fifth fatal shooting in Goldsboro since April.
