Wings slated for new complex

Saucy, spicy, sweet -- Goldsboro is getting a new place to eat.
A Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar is expected to set up shop in Goldsboro in the Goldsboro Promenade at the former Litchfield Theater location.
The restaurant will be located beside the proposed Ashley Furniture store.
At Tuesday night's brief City Council meeting, eyes widened when people turned to the page in the agenda packet displaying the restaurant name on a sign on a site plan revision.
Whispers followed, and Police Chief Tim Bell was one of the excited people in the audience.
"They (Buffalo Wild Wings) are good," he said. "We need more good, high quality restaurants in town."
In the 20-minute-long meeting, council members approved one individual action item and 12 consent agenda items.
The only individual action item of the night was the revision of a site plan for the Goldsboro Promenade to include an additional freestanding sign at the northern entrance of the shopping area along Spence Avenue.
The council approved individual requests for annexation into city limits for three properties.
The first property under consideration is located on the east side of Cuyler Best Road between New Hope Road and North Park Drive and is owned by B.R. Stone, Inc.
The second, located on the northeast corner of Gateway Drive and Commerce Court, is owned by Strickland Insurance.
The third property is located on the west side of Wayne Memorial Drive between New Hope Road and Tommy's Road, and J.W. Hunter requested the petition for annexation.
Rezoning of two properties also were approved.
The first property, located on the east side of Oak Forest Road between U.S. Highway 70 and Gateway Drive, was rezoned to shopping center from industrial and business park. The second, located on the north side of U.S. Highway 70 West between Springwood Drive and J&L Drive, was rezoned to general industry from general business and residential.
In other business, the council approved site plans for New Covenants Church Ministries and Franklin Bakery Co., the expansion of the Goldsboro Police Department's budget for drug-related work, the breakdown of split grant funds between the GPD and Wayne County Sheriff's Office for replacing outdated radios, the sale of surplus city property and the implementation of a merit policy for city employees.
