Wayne County Sheriff's investigators have arrested another suspect in the Aug. 31 home invasion in Dudley that ended in the death of one of the intruders.

James Christopher Smith, 17, was arrested at noon Tuesday at Southern Wayne High School. He was charged with one count of first degree burglary and two counts of second degree kidnapping. Bond was set at $120,000.

Around midnight, three armed men stormed into a family's home on Old Mount Olive Highway waking the family, a man and his girlfriend and their four children.

The men rounded up the occupants and held them at gunpoint while they ransacked the home searching for money.

One of the gunmen opened fire and the man reached for his own handgun and returned fire.

The suspect who died was identified as Antione Logan Chestnut, 19, of Dudley.

Two others escaped, but one of the suspects, Kayloe Lemont Middleton, 25, of Mount Olive, was charged later with first-degree burglary and first-degree kidnapping.

Wayne County Sheriff's Maj. George Raecher said the investigation is not over yet, adding, "We're still at it."

Officers said the homeowner will not be charged in Chestnut's death. The incident has been ruled an act of self-defense.
