Water levels along the Neuse River flood canal near MarMac are currently below the dam level. Under "normal" conditions, water runs over the dam, but high temperatures combined with little rainfall is translating into "severe drought," city officials said. Public Utilities Director Karen Brashear said without a major rain event, residents will likely see mandatory conservation of water measures mandated by the City Council in the near future.
