Suspect drug offender caught after foot chase

A man, who fled Wayne County sheriff's deputies on foot, was arrested Monday.

Coleco Taylor Best, 24, of Arrington Bridge Road, was wanted by the state on charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver (cocaine) and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for keeping or selling a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Wayne County sheriff officials.

However, Best was charged Monday with resisting a public officer.

Best was seen riding as a passenger in a burgundy Mercedes-Benz near the Pizza Inn on U.S. Highway 70. Sheriff's deputies stopped the vehicle near Calvary Street when Best exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Best was chased several blocks and was taken into custody after Deputy K.M. Cox apprehended him at about 1 p.m. on Woodrow Street.

Best was placed in the Wayne County Jail on a $35,000 bond.

No injuries were reported.
