A Goldsboro teen who led several Wayne County sheriff's deputies on a chase through a residential neighborhood after he allegedly stabbed his father during an argument earlier this morning is now in custody.
Matthew Hayden, 18, of Clover Ridge Drive, faces two counts of careless and reckless driving, failure to heed lights and siren and hit and run following a chase that began around 5:15 a.m., according to officials from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the State Highway Patrol.
Deputies responded to the home of Jeffery Hayden, 46, at 105 Clover Ridge Drive, at about 5 a.m. after a stabbing had been reported.
Jeffery Hayden told authorities that his son stabbed him in the arm. Deputies immediately went to search for the suspect, who took off in his father's car, officials said.
Deputies spotted the vehicle and pursued it. During the chase, Matthew Hayden allegedly damaged the porch on one mobile home and a parked car at 113 Clover Ridge Drive.
Hayden was placed in the Wayne County Jail under $2,500 bond. He will not face assault charges. His father declined to press charges.
