Duke Endowment donates $100,000 to food program

RALEIGH -- The Duke Endowment awarded $100,000 to The North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church to enhance the mission of rural churches in the N.C. Conference through the "Stop Hunger Now" volunteer food packaging program "Operation Sharehouse."
Specifically, the funding will support the implementation of the "Operation Sharehouse" program in Goldsboro, with a mobile food packaging unit for use in six surrounding counties. The Operation Sharehouse program enables church and community volunteers to package high-protein dehydrated meals to feed the world's impoverished. Last year, 5,200 volunteers in Raleigh, Charlotte and South Hill, Va., packaged more than 1.7 million meals.
"I have seen the power mission work can have in building a church and bringing together a community. We are excited to partner with Stop Hunger Now and thrilled to bring this program to our churches in eastern North Carolina," Steve Taylor, the director of mission programs for The North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church said.
