One man is behind bars for his alleged involvement in a shooting on Creech Street early Tuesday that claimed the life of Goldsboro man.
Joseph Irwin Knight, 24, of East Walnut Street, faces one count of murder in the shooting death of Jadie Demon Taylor, 22, of Twin Creeks Drive. Knight is being held at the Wayne County Jail without bond.
The charge stems from an allegation Knight shot Taylor during an argument in the 300 block of Creech Street at about 1:35 a.m.
As Knight and Taylor argued, Cory Gist, 22, of Quail Drive, tried to intervene. At that point, Knight allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Taylor several times, according to the Goldsboro police report.
Julius Reid, 23, of LaGrange Road, drove Taylor to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Taylor's own vehicle.
During the trip, Taylor's vehicle attracted an officer's attention and was subsequently pulled over during a traffic stop.
Taylor's injuries later proved fatal. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
Tuesday's incident marks the sixth fatal shooting within Goldsboro's city limits since April 22.
Knight is expected to have his first appearance today at the Wayne County Courthouse.
Goldsboro police Investigator Dwayne Dean is the lead detective. State Bureau of Investigation also is assisting with the case.
