Correction

Alveno Devale Stanford, 34, of Azalea Drive, Mount Olive was sentenced to one year's probation in Wayne County Superior Court last week for possession of cocaine. A story in Sunday's edition incorrectly stated that he had been given active time.

Accident

A Seven Springs man remains in critical condition at a local trauma center Monday suffering from severe head injuries he received when he was ejected during a one-vehicle accident on Pineview Cemetery Road.

Alberto Felipe, 28, was traveling west on Pineview Cemetery Road at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his green Chevy Blazer and ran into a residential yard, Trooper Sgt. K.W. Cook said.

Felipe's SUV overturned several times and he was thrown from the vehicle. Felipe suffered severe head trauma during the crash.

No other passengers were in the vehicle, officials said.

Speed and alcohol contributed to the accident, Cook said. Felipe also was not wearing a seat belt, he added.

Felipe was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital by Wayne County Emergency Medical Services. He was later flown by air ambulance to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville for additional treatment.

Felipe is listed in critical condition, Cook said. Charges are pending in the case.

Justin Scott Eubanks, 19, of Lindsay Lane, was injured at 6:30 p.m. Sunday during a fight when three men jumped him in a parking lot in the 2200 block of East Ash Street and slashed him across the back with a knife. Eubanks was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
