Norwayne students do well at national tech conference

Ten Norwayne Middle School TSA recently competed the 29th National Technology Students Association Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, returning with several top awards.
More than 4,200 students from across the U.S., Germany and Peru competed in events that incorporated communicated, construction, manufacturing, transportation, leadership and related technologies.
One of the Norwayne first place projects was in Manufacturing Challenge, involving students Sara Parker Maxwell, Cameron Howell, and Harlie Howard. They had to set up an assembly line to design and build a cat window seat. Pictures on a display board showed the steps to manufacture the product, while a notebook contained multi-view drawings, tools used, a flow chart and an interest survey.
The same three students also earned a first place trophy in the category of Medical Technology Challenge. Their display explained how a new nicotine vaccine called Nic Vax can reduce cravings and cause even a heavy smoker to eventually stop.
Other top 10 winners included Marah Radford and Evan Trent, Inventions and Innovations; Heath Radford and Kathleen Doughty, Agriculture and Bio-Technology; Marah Radford and Rebecca Pate, Environment Challenge; Lauren Larison, Rebecca Pate and Tyler Pat, Construction Challenge; and Rebecca Pate, Communication Challenge.
