Duplin curriculum head named

Duplin County Schools' curriculum and instructional philosophy is going to stay the same this year, Superintendent Dr. Wiley Doby said, but come Aug. 13, there's going to be somebody new at the helm.
Associate superintendent for academics and administration Dr. Randy Shaver resigned last month to become superintendent for the Whiteville City Schools.
Replacing him will be Allison Sholar, current Pender County Schools assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
"She's very knowledgeable and she brings a lot of valuable experience to the table. We're very fortunate she's coming to Duplin County," Doby said.
Her hiring was approved by the county Board of Education during a short executive session after last Thursday's facility meeting with the county Board of Commissioners. She will be making approximately $95,000 a year.
"Basically her job will involve dealing with our curriculum and instruction in the classroom and certain administrative details," Doby said. "It'll be a continuation of what we've been doing. We'll be continuing our philosophy of blocking and tackling in the classroom -- executing the fundamentals in the classroom.
"She's been doing that in her present job. She's very much on the same page as us."
