Assault ruled an act of self defense

Wayne County sheriff's deputies responded to 111 J&L Drive about 2 p.m. Saturday after a fight and found Solomon Ortiz unresponsive and suffering from a severe head wound, Wayne County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said. Ortiz, whose age was unknown, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment by ambulance. Farfour interviewed several witnesses and discovered Ortiz was actually the aggressor in the fight. Farfour said Ortiz allegedly started the altercation and stabbed another man. The Hispanic male victim, whose name was not released, then struck Ortiz in the head with a beer bottle. Farfour called the assault an act of self defense. He added no charges will be filed in the case.
