The Wayne County Development Alliance has elected new officers for fiscal year 2007-08.

The new chairman will be Ray McDonald Sr., taking over from Charlie Gaylor. Jimmie Edmundson will now serve as vice chairman, stepping into the role behind David Kornegay. And Lee Smith will continue as secretary/treasurer.

According to the arrangements agreed upon during the merger of the parties that formed the Development Alliance in 2006, the intent is to alternate the top leadership position. Therefore, since the Alliance was chaired in 2006-07 by Gaylor, a Goldsboro resident, the members chose McDonald, a Mount Olive resident, for the chairman's role this year.

"Ray has been involved in the growth and development of Wayne County for a long time," said Joanna Thompson, president of the Wayne County Development Alliance. "He assisted our office on numerous occasions during his tenure as the town manager of Mount Olive and he'll be a natural to lead this board."

The Alliance, a public/private partnership, was created in 2006 to be the sole, unified economic development organization in Wayne County. It was formed out of the Wayne County Economic Develop-ment Corporation, the Golds-boro Committee of 100 and the Mount Olive Committee of 100. It is funded by Wayne County, several local municipalities and a range of local private sector investors.
