Planning Board sends recommendations to commissioners

Meeting Tuesday, the Wayne County Planning Board is sending several items onto the county Board of Commissioners with positive recommendations.
Included among those is a request to rename a section of road that used to be part of Nahunta Road.
The problem, county Planning Director Connie Price explained, is that when Nahunta Road was re-aligned with the building of the U.S. 117 bypass, a section was cut off. Now the four families living on that stretch of asphalt want to rename it Hoss Lane.
"It really does need to have a different name since Nahunta Road was re-aligned," Price agreed.
Also heading onward, this time to the county Board of Adjustment -- which is made up of the seven commissioners -- is a special use permit request from A & J Auto to open a repair shop near Norwayne Middle School.
Price explained that the special permit is required because the proposed shop would be in an auxiliary building outside the home of owners Ayla K. Eberst Villa and Florencio P. Villa.
"It's pretty straightforward. The planning board will be recommending to the board of adjustment that it be approved," he added.
Also heard Tuesday night was a request from Tom Best for the rezoning of his property on Pecan Road.
It's a request the planning board sent to the commissioners with a negative recommendation last year. The commissioners, however, never brought the matter up for a public hearing, allowing the request to die.
Price explained that Best is seeking the heavy industry zoning in order to install a construction debris site. He emphasized that he has been told that no holes will be dug in the lot and that it will not be used as a landfill.
The planning board, though, did not take up Best's request Tuesday.
"He's trying to resurrect his request and what we told him was that he needed to re-apply and that it would be on our agenda next month," Price said.
