Applewhite murder trial under way

The trial continues today for a man charged in the murder of a Goldsboro man who was killed in his car on Christmas Eve in 2005.
David Lamar Applewhite, 35, of Royall Avenue, faces charges of first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied property in the shooting death of 37-year-old Reginald Reid of Fussell Street.
Jury selection began Monday afternoon and testimony got under way Tuesday.
Wayne County Superior Court Judge Charles Henry is presiding over the case. Wayne County Assistant District Attorney Matt Delbridge is prosecuting the case. Defense Attorney Geoff Hulse is representing Applewhite.
The charges Applewhite faces stem from allegations that he killed Reid. Reid was found shot to death in the 1700 block of Peachtree Street. His body was found slumped over in his car which was riddled with bullets. The shooting occurred about 12:35 p.m.
Applewhite turned himself in to police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Investigators said Reid and Applewhite, who had a history of disagreements, had an argument on the day of the shooting.
Applewhite continues to maintain his innocence.
Jurors heard testimony from a number of witnesses presented by the state including from William Curtis, a witness, Daniel Weatherington and Keith Vanhausen of Wayne County EMS and Officer Jeff Clifford, a crime scene specialist with the Goldsboro Police Department.
Experts from the State Bureau of Investigation and a medical examiner from the state crime lab also testified during the trial.
The trial was to resume at 9:30 a.m. today.
