The Waynesborough Historical Village celebrates Summerfest this weekend, featuring 19th-century living history demonstrations, games, contests, food and entertainment.

The festival begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with a guided trail walk and continues until 5 p.m. in the historical village at 801 U.S. 70 Bypass South of Goldsboro.

Living history presentations will include Civil War encampments on both sides of the road coming behind the Visitor's Center, the Tarheel Civilians demonstrating life in the 1800s and blacksmith Charles Andy Anderson.

The North Carolina Falconers Association will have birds of prey on hand for exhibition.

Several 1800s games for children will be held and a watermelon eating contest and a seed-spitting contest.
