Arrest made in Mount Olive shooting

The search is over for a man who allegedly opened fire on a driver and car full of children during an argument Thursday on Johnson and Williamson streets in Mount Olive.
Meanwhile, Mount Olive police are continuing their search for suspects in connection with a separate weekend shooting that left a local man dead.
Early this morning, Terry Mondell White turned himself in to Wayne County Sheriff deputies and was arrested. He was taken to the Wayne County jail and placed under a $50,000 bond.
White's decision to turn himself in came as a relief to the Mount Olive Police Department.
"He had got in contact with me yesterday by phone and I advised him it'd be best if he turned himself in," said. Maj. Ralph Schroeder of the MOPD. "I've known him for a long time and he knows me.
"He actually called on Saturday, but I didn't my messages until late that night since we were investigating that murder (of Julius Troublefield Jr.). We've had a busy weekend."
Schroeder said he got the call at about 6:30 a.m. today that White had turned himself in at the Wayne County Magistrate's Office.
He is facing two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
County law enforcement officers had spent the weekend searching for White.
"In a situation like this it's probably better to try to get it resolved. It was good all the way around that he turned himself in," Schroeder said.
The shooting occurred at about 10 a.m., Thursday when White, 29, got into an argument with Garcia Kornegay, 28, who was driving a gray Cadillac.
The confrontation escalated until White, a convicted drug felon, allegedly shot Kornegay in the chest.
Also injured in the incident was Kornegay's 3-year-old son Caleb Kornegay, who received a cut on his arm, possibly from falling glass after a bullet shot out one of the car windows.
Several other children also were in the car, but were taken away from the scene before Mount Olive Police officers arrived. Their names have not been released.
The cause of the argument is still unknown, Schroeder said, and the incident is still under investigation.
Mount Olive police also are still investigating a Friday night murder and said today that they are hoping to make an arrest this week.
Julius Troublefield Jr., a 38-year-old Center Street resident, was found shot to death on an apartment complex sidewalk off Daly Boulevard shortly before midnight.
Mount Olive police Chief Emmett Ballree said a call came in about 11:40 Friday night informing police that shots had been fired in the area. When officers arrived, they found Troublefield's body, with a crowd of people standing around him. An autopsy performed Saturday confirmed Troublefield died from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, Ballree said.
"We worked at it all weekend," he said this morning. "The case seems to be coming together pretty good."
Ballree said he expects to meet with District Attorney Branson Vickory later today to discuss the case.
"We expect to at least have some warrants issued this week," Ballree said. "But we would really like to make some arrests."
Ballree said he was not ready to relase the identities of suspects or any evidence.
On Saturday, Ballree said he believed that more than one person fired a shot and that Troublefield likely was an innocent bystander.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Department and the SBI are assisting with the case.
