MOC to expand early childhood education

MOUNT OLIVE -- Early childhood education, the second most popular program at Mount Olive College, is expected to grow even more through a partnership recently formed with North Carolina Central University.
The affiliation agreement offers graduates from MOC with the opportunity to seek licensure by taking two NCCU courses plus the internship semester supervised in an approved setting, said Dorothy Whitley, dean of the school of professional studies at MOC.
To be eligible for the opportunity, students must have graduated from the Mount Olive program with at least a 2.5 grade point average, Ms. Whitley noted.
The program at Mount Olive has grown in popularity over the past four years, graduating 142 students who now work in 31 North Carolina counties in a variety of settings. What makes it especially appealing, said Dr. Angeline Woodson, lead professor in the program, is its accessibility.
Offered one night a week at six locations, the program serves as a gateway for many students to achieve their educational and career goals, Woodson said.
To enter the early childhood program at MOC, students must have completed at least 55 credit hours, of which 15 must be in general education courses, including two composition courses.
