Coggins named sports editor for News-Argus

Rudy Coggins has been named the new sports editor of The Goldsboro News-Argus, the newspaper announced.
Coggins takes over for Steve Roush, who served as the sports editor for two years before leaving the staff in late April.
An East Carolina graduate, Coggins earned degrees in communications and English literature. He joined the News-Argus staff in 2000 as a sports writer. Prior to coming to Goldsboro, Coggins worked for 18 months with the Wilson Daily Times.
"Although I'm not a native of Wayne County, I do feel like I've developed some good, solid relationships with the coaches and community," said Coggins. "I plan to promote local sports to the best of my ability in and outside Wayne County."
Coggins, a native of Pinetops, served as sports editor for four-plus years at the Rocky Mount Telegram and won a 1990 N.C. Press Association award for photography. He has also served as the sports editor at The Daily Citizen-News in Dalton, Ga., and at The Daily Southerner in Tarboro.
He is the son of William and Barbara Coggins of Pinetops and is expected to be an inductee into the Southwest Edgecombe High School Athletic Hall of Fame for media relations.
