Assault
David Dekarlo Sampson reported Tuesday he woke up in his bed in a house on West Grantham Street and found a man standing over him with a gun. He heard a gunshot and was not sure if he was shot or struck with some other object in the head, according to Goldsboro police. Police responded to 709 N. Virginia St. and found Sampson, 27, suffering from a head wound. Several small cuts were found on his head. Sampson was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment, where he was treated and released.
Store robbed
An unarmed thief robbed a store clerk at The Pantry at 1601 E. Ash St. and got away with an unknown amount of money Tuesday.
Break-ins reported
*Cheryl Vinson Stafford reported someone broke into her home in the 100 block of Byrd Road and stole a mattress, dresser, couch and computer, all valued at $1,550. Damage to the home was $1,800.
*Dalton Leo Lewis reported someone stole a riding lawnmower, valued at $600, from his home in the 600 block of Outlaw Road.
*Roxane B. Sherard reported someone stole a $5,000 Al Hirshfield painting from her home in the 100 block of Dwight Drive.
*Shahim Faircloth reported someone broke into his home in the 500 block of Cardinal Drive and stole a DVD/VCR player and 25 home-recorded movies, all valued at $175.
*Jimarse Antoine Brown reported someone broke into his home in the 200 block of South William Street and stole a 37-inch television, Sony PlayStation 2, XBox, clothes and shoes, all valued at $4,165.
Bomb threats
Two bomb threats were called into Southern Academy and Southern Wayne High School in Dudley Tuesday morning. No explosive devices were found.
Theft investigated
A Belk employee was accused of stealing a DVD player, MP3 player, digital camera, all valued at $260, and $280 from the store located at 617 N. Berkeley Blvd. The incident was captured on video surveillance and the merchandise had been recovered, according to the police report. No charges were immediately filed.
Accident
A Goldsboro man was injured early Monday when he swerved to avoid a collision with a Toyota Camry and struck the U.S. Air Force fence on Elm Street at about 1:46 a.m. Glen Anthony Coles, 21, of Stoney Manor Drive, was taken by EMS to Wayne Memorial Hospital. His injuries were not considered life threatening. Coles told police the Toyota was in his lane of travel. He swerved to avoid a collision and hit the fence. Damage to the fence was set at $4,000. Damage to Coles' 1992 Buick was set at $3,000. The driver of the Toyota was spotted traveling southwest on Elm Street and appeared to be swerving before Coles struck the fence, a witness told police. The driver of the Toyota left the scene and was not identified.
