Central Alumni to hold weekend homecoming

Central Alumni and Friends is planning its 35th homecoming and reunion this weekend, with the Central High School classes of 1947, 1957 and 1967 and the Eastern Wayne High School classes of 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007 honored.

Events begin Friday with a banquet at 7 p.m. at the Officers Club at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

The guest speaker will be Col. Carolyn Jones, an alumni and deputy chief for the U.S. Army Human Resources Command Base Realignment and Closure Commission. A fellowship hour will follow the banquet. Col. Jones. is the daughter of Freddie Lee and Singer B. Jones of Goldsboro.

On Saturday, a Dutch breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. at Madison's restaurant. A parade will be held Saturday at noon in the Central Heights community, with the lineup starting at 11 a.m. at Eastern Wayne Middle School. Following the parade, a picnic will be held at the school, starting at 1 p.m. In addition to the food, there will be games, activities and a drawing. Attendees are asked to bring desserts and lawn chairs.

A hospitality hour will be held Saturday at 9 p.m. at the Best Western . Tickets are $15.

On Sunday, classmates will worship at Thompson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, starting at 11 a.m.

An awards ceremony and gospel program will be held Free Will Baptist Church. The guest speaker will be David Simmons, vice president of operations for Power Blue Inc.
